SYDNEY, N.S. | October 20, 2026 – The Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Inglis as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective November 2, 2026.
A familiar face in Cape Breton’s business and community development circles, Inglis brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education, economic development, communications, relationship building, fundraising and organizational leadership.
“We are very pleased to welcome Mark as the Chamber’s new CEO,” said Melissa Vickers, Chair of the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. “Mark brings a strong understanding of Cape Breton’s business landscape, the needs of our community and the opportunities ahead for our region. He has built his career around bringing people together, developing strong relationships and turning ideas into action.”
As CEO, Inglis will oversee the Chamber’s operations, member engagement, advocacy and business development efforts while working with the Board, staff and community partners to support a strong and sustainable business community across CBRM.
Inglis joins the Chamber from the Port of Sydney Development Corporation, where he serves as Manager of Marketing and Business Development. In that role, he leads work supporting economic development, tourism, marine activity, investment and community engagement.
Before joining the Port, Inglis spent five years with Cape Breton University, where he led alumni engagement and developed programs, partnerships and communications serving a global network of more than 40,000 alumni. He previously served as Director of Communications with the Cape Breton Partnership, supporting regional business growth, investment and economic development priorities. His career also includes roles with the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation in fundraising, communications, events, partnership development and stakeholder engagement.
Beyond his professional experience, Inglis currently serves as Board Chair of the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia and as a member of the national Alzheimer Societies Federation Council. “Mark understands that the Chamber needs to be connected to its members, responsive to their needs and a strong advocate for the business community,” said Vickers. “His combination of economic development experience, communications expertise, community leadership and knowledge of our region will serve the Chamber and its members well as we move into this next chapter.”
For Inglis, the opportunity represents a chance to build on his longstanding commitment to CBRM’s business community.
“I’m incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Chamber,” said Inglis. “My priority will be ensuring we deliver meaningful value to our members while providing a strong, independent voice for businesses across CBRM. I want to listen to our members, understand the challenges and opportunities they are seeing every day and work together to create more opportunities for businesses of all sizes.”
Inglis lives in North Sydney with his wife and their two boys and grew up in Howie Centre. He is a graduate of Cape Breton University, St. Francis Xavier University and Nova Scotia Community College, with studies in social research, education and public relations.
