CBRM, NS – The Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce has announced that Chief Executive Officer Megan Penney will be leaving the organization, with her final day on September 15, 2026.
Penney joined the Chamber in 2023 and has served as CEO since May 2024. During her time as CEO, she led a period of growth and development for the organization, strengthening internal operations and staff structure, improving financial and administrative systems, growing events and programming, and evolving membership offerings to better serve the Chamber’s members.
Her tenure also included an increased focus on advocacy and continuing to build the Chamber’s role as a voice for the CBRM business community, including the development of the CBRM Business-Friendly Report Card and increased engagement with government and community partners. More recently, the Chamber also undertook an updated strategic planning process and introduced a new website and member platform to support future growth and member engagement.
“Megan has made a real impact during her time with the Chamber,” said Melissa Vickers, Board Chair of the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce. “She has brought a lot of energy and commitment to the role, worked hard for our members and the Cape Breton business community, and helped move the Chamber forward. On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Megan for everything she has contributed. We wish her continued success and all the best as she moves forward in her career.”
Penney said the decision to leave the Chamber was not an easy one.
“The Chamber has been such an important part of my career. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have had so many meaningful opportunities so early in my career, and I’ve learned so much along the way. I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished over the past few years and grateful to our Board, team, members, and partners for the trust and support they’ve given me. This role has challenged me, helped me grow, and given me experiences and relationships that I know I will carry with me throughout my career. I'll always be proud of my time at the Chamber.”
The Chamber’s Board of Directors is working through the leadership transition and will share further information with members as plans are finalized.
