Our Chamber Story

For more than a century, the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce has supported, connected, and advocated for businesses across our region. From its beginnings in 1911 to today, the Chamber has evolved alongside the communities and entrepreneurs it serves while remaining committed to strengthening CBRM's economy and business community.

1911

The organization was incorporated under the Board of Trade Act as the Industrial Cape Breton Board of Trade, strengthening its role in representing and supporting the business community.

2002

The Industrial Cape Breton Board of Trade became the Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce in order to modernize our image and bring the organization in line with other business organizations in North America.

2011

The Chamber celebrated its 100th Annual General Meeting, marking a century of supporting and advocating for business in Cape Breton.

Today, the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce continues to build on more than a century of history while looking ahead to the future of business in the CBRM. Guided by our mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities, we are focused on strengthening advocacy, growing and engaging membership, delivering meaningful member experiences, and building a sustainable Chamber for the years ahead.
