Following in his father’s footsteps, Bill Morrison, President of Seaboard Industrial Supply Company Ltd., and his team work hard to demonstrate resilience in the face of challenge.
Whether it was the closure of the steel plant, the major changes made in the mining industry, or a global pandemic, Seaboard Industrial conquers every challenge that knocks on their door.
Most recently, when some doctors and nurses at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital couldn’t get a proper fit with the N95 mask, Seaboard Industrial stepped up to the challenge to ensure the safety of those that risk their lives to protect our families.
The quantitative fit test is made for those that are unable to get a proper seal with the N95 mask and instead must wear a half mask respirator, which has two replaceable filters on either side of the mask.
Bill and his team make the most out of every challenge, seeing it as an opportunity to lend a helping hand to the members of our community. Having always been involved in the growth of our island, there was no hesitation when they offered to help our doctors and nurses.
“The test requires the doctors and nurses to perform a series of movements, breathing, and talking exercises designed to simulate the same movements made in their field,” Bill told the Chamber. “It is a number-driven system, and when the user completes the test, a card is printed that tells them the exact size of the half mask respirator they need to wear.”
Throughout COVID-19, Seaboard Industrial fitted over 170 doctors and nurses. They worked with a promise to ensure the safety of their own staff and the medical professionals entering the facility. Heroes come in many forms, and Seaboard Industrial in nothing short of a hero in our eyes!
Soon after the word spread that Seaboard Industrial was supporting our doctors and nurses with a resilient act of selflessness, the Donkin Mine decided to do much the same. They donated over 60 new half mask respirators to those working on the frontlines. This is what community is; standing united as one to support us all in a time of need.
“It was a very rewarding experience to be able to help those that put their lives on the line for us daily. It was gratifying for our whole team.”
It is times like this that Bill and his team inspire each other to discover innovative ways to rise above the storm. “You have to search and see what’s out there. What new products can you come up with, or how can you focus more on some of the products you currently sell? It will take a bit of work, but you have to push yourself and be up for the challenge.”
Seaboard Industrial has one of the largest industrial inventories on Cape Breton Island. With plans to expand their showroom and warehouse at the end of the year, there is no stopping this locally-owned company from finding success and supporting the community during the pandemic.
